The Administrative Division
Consists of the Chief of Police, the Executive Officer, Secretary to the Chief of Police, and an Administrative Lieutenant who oversees the Office of Planning & Career Development. Also included in this division is the Records, Data Entry and Information of Management Systems. The Business Manager is also within this division.
Legal Division: Cpt Walter P. Hennessy
The Legal Division is commanded by a Captain and they are responsible for prosecuting all cases for the Police Department. The cases range from Traffic Tribunal, Municipal Court, Family Court, District Court and Superior Court. The Captain is assisted by a Sergeant who supervises the Juvenile Detective and also included in this Division is the School Resource Officer's. The Coventry Police currently has one officer assigned to the Alan Shawn Fienstein Middle School and another officer assigned to the Coventry High School.
Patrol Division: Cpt James P. Rickard
The Patrol Division is the back bone of all law enforcement agencies. They are the first responders on most calls. The Division is commanded by a Captain. The division is divided into three patrol shifts each commanded by a Lieutenant and assisted by 2 Sergeants. There are currently 27 officers assigned to the Patrol Division and they provide services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. On average the Patrol Division fields 4-6 officers per shift. During 2007 Patrol Division responded to approx. 28,000 calls for service.
Detective Division: Cpt Bryan J. Volpe
The Detective Division provides follow up on all cases that are assigned and investigates all major crimes. The division is commanded by a Captain and assisted with a Lieutenant and a Sergeant. There are 10 Detectives assigned to this division which also includes a Detective who specializes in Crime Scene Investigation.
The Records Department
The Records Division handles the release of all public records.
Their hours are Mon 1-4pm and Tues-Friday 10am-12pm & 1pm-4pm. Closed on all Holidays.
