WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING A CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY?

To give the public a working knowledge of the Coventry Police Department policies and procedures, through a series of classes instructed by Coventry Police personnel.

IN WHAT WAYS WILL THE CPA IMPROVE POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS?

The more information the public has about their police department, the less suspicious, fear and misconceptions will exist.  Many conflicts are caused simply by a lack of understanding, and these can be avoided.  The motto of the Citizens’ Police Academy is
“UNDERSTANDIN EACH OTHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE”

HOW ARE THE CLASSES CONDUCTED?

Participants meet once a week for eleven consecutive weeks.  The sessions are held at the Coventry Police Department and some classes will be held outside for hands on practical classes.  Instruction is designed to be appealing to participants with lectures, demonstrations and hands on practice.

WHAT TYPE OF MATERIAL IS COVERED?

The sessions are designed to give an overview of the Coventry Police Department and it’s various functions, from hiring practices to training and investigations.

HOW WILL THE INFORMATION OBTAINED IN THE COURSE, BE USED BY THE PUBLIC?

We believe that an informed public is one that is better able to make decisions about the Coventry Police Department.  We hope that this program will assist us in breaking down any barriers between the police and the public we serve.
