Dispatch Communications

The Communications Center is comprised of 5 civilian Public Safety Dispatchers (PSD) with a combined Law Enforcement experience of over 70 years. The Communications Center is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and provides telephone service to the public for information or assistance that may be required in emergencies. On average, over 26,000 calls for Police services are recorded in the Communications Center utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) program, which offers a wide variety of options including immediate communication via computer to Officers on patrol. CAD simplifies both the call taking and radio dispatching functions. By featuring command line entry, coupled with on screen dispatch capabilities and use of basic Windows hot key functions, it provides telecommunications with flexible alternatives to increase productivity and reduce response times. The Communications Center is connected to the State of RI through computers and can access State databases such as RI Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (RILETS), NLETS, NCIC, as well as other National databases.
